Ashwin secured a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli and a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from New York University. His PhD research work focused on the design and development of medical devices for rehabilitation and therapeutics using a mechatronic approach. Part of his PhD research work helped secure the VentureWell's E-Team grant Stage I and II award Summer 2017, NIHP2CHD086841 from TREAT organization, and one of the best biomedical engineering idea (BMEidea) of 2016 chosen by VentureWell. He is also the recipient of the best PhD qualifying performance award in 2016. Throughout his PhD program at NYU, he was funded in part by the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, NYU Tandon School of Engineering (September 2015-August 2018) as a Teaching Assistant for Automatic Controls Lab and Research Assistant since August 2018-May 2020 from the US Department of Defense grant W81XWH-17-1-0320. He also mentored a team of undergraduates from Automatic Controls Lab to participate at the Smartgun Design Challenge 2017, which secured a million dollars in capital budget allocation for the development of NYU.
